DM-LU200 Ultrasonic Level Sensor, 0.3-6 m

Overview

The DM-LU200 is the cost-effective answer for clean water level measurement in sumps, tanks and reservoirs. It fires an acoustic pulse downward, times the echo and converts it into a level, with a built-in temperature sensor compensating for the speed of sound in air.

The 6° beam angle is narrow enough for a 300 mm tank opening and wide enough to tolerate a slightly off-vertical mounting. Setup is by two buttons and a display, with a 4-20 mA output that can be inverted for distance or level, which saves a configuration step when replacing a failed unit in the field.

Where ultrasonic stops working

Foam, heavy vapour, condensation on the transducer and wind across an open tank all degrade an ultrasonic reading, usually by returning a plausible but wrong value rather than a fault. If any of those conditions apply, specify a radar sensor instead.
