Flow is the variable where installation has the largest effect on accuracy. A turbine meter installed two diameters downstream of an elbow will read several percent low no matter how good the calibration was in the factory. DuoMy therefore supplies flow meters together with the straight-run requirements, the grounding kit and, for clamp-on ultrasonic units, a mounting rail that fixes the transducer spacing.

The range covers clamp-on ultrasonic meters for existing pipework where shutdown is not an option, turbine meters for clean low-viscosity liquids on small lines, vortex meters for steam and saturated gases, and electromagnetic meters for conductive liquids and slurries. Outputs are 4-20 mA, pulse, Modbus RTU and HART, and battery-powered versions are available for remote water networks.

Every meter is wet-calibrated on a gravimetric rig before shipment, and the calibration factor is printed on the housing and stored in the electronics, so replacing a meter does not require re-commissioning the loop.

Range Overview

Flow Meters variants

Each variant exists because a different application needs it. The distinction is usually mechanical or environmental rather than a better accuracy figure.

Clamp-On Ultrasonic Flow Meters

±1% RD

Non-invasive measurement on DN15 to DN600 pipe with no process interruption. Suitable for water, glycol and most homogeneous liquids.

Turbine Flow Meters

±0.5% RD

Small-line measurement for fuels, solvents and water with fast response and pulse or 4-20 mA output.

Vortex Flow Meters

Steam rated

Steam, compressed air and saturated gas measurement with no moving parts and a wide turndown.

Electromagnetic Flow Meters

DN10-DN1200

Full-bore magnetic meters for conductive liquids, slurries and wastewater, available with PTFE or rubber liners.

Variable Area Flow Meters

Local readout

Local indication rotameters with optional alarm contacts for purge and dosing lines.

Applications

Where this family is used

Water distribution and leakage

Insertion and clamp-on meters on district mains, with battery versions for sites without power.

Cooling water and HVAC loops

Bidirectional measurement for chilled and hot water, used for energy allocation and balancing.

Chemical dosing and batching

Turbine and electromagnetic meters with pulse output for totaliser control on dosing skids.

Steam and compressed air

Selection Guide

How to specify correctly

  1. 1

Confirm the pipe and the medium first

Conductivity, solids content and temperature rule out technologies faster than any other criterion. Water at 20 °C is easy; slurry at 90 °C is not.

  2. 2

    Budget the straight run

Most meters want ten diameters upstream and five downstream. If the plant cannot give it, choose a technology with a correction factor or accept a wider uncertainty.

  3. 3

    Decide between retrofit and shutdown

Clamp-on ultrasonic avoids cutting the pipe, which usually decides the project. Inline meters are more accurate but need a shutdown window.

  4. 4

Check turndown against the real profile

A meter sized for peak flow may not register night-time minimum flow. State both numbers when you request a quotation.

  5. 5

Plan the output before the piping

Pulse for totalising, 4-20 mA for control, Modbus for SCADA. Adding an output later often means a new electronics module.

FAQ

Flow Meters questions

How accurate is a clamp-on ultrasonic flow meter in practice?

Laboratory accuracy is ±1% of reading. In the field, expect ±2% to ±3% unless the straight run, the transducer spacing and the pipe wall thickness are all as specified. We supply a mounting rail and a wall-thickness gauge with every clamp-on kit to remove the two largest error sources.

Can I measure flow without cutting the pipe?

Yes, with clamp-on ultrasonic transducers. They mount on the outside of the pipe and require only a clean surface. The limitation is that the liquid must be homogeneous and the pipe must be sonically transparent, which excludes lined and heavily corroded pipe.

Which meter suits steam?

A vortex meter with a high-temperature sensor head. Vortex meters handle saturated and superheated steam, and with a built-in temperature sensor they can output compensated mass flow directly.

Do you provide wet calibration certificates?

Every meter is calibrated on a gravimetric rig and shipped with a certificate showing the calibration factor and the test points. Recertification is available as a return-to-factory service.

What is the lead time for a DN300 electromagnetic meter?

Four to five weeks for PTFE-lined, three weeks for rubber-lined with a 4-20 mA output. Clamp-on kits ship from stock in 3-5 working days.
