A proximity switch is a commodity part until it is asked to survive coolant mist, weld spatter or a daily caustic wash. Then the failure mode becomes clear: the housing cracks, the potting absorbs moisture, or the sensing face erodes and the switching distance drifts until the machine starts missing parts. DuoMy builds the range around stainless and PTFE-faced housings for exactly these duties.
Inductive versions cover metal detection from 1 mm on an M8 barrel to 40 mm on an M30 block, with PNP, NPN, two-wire and IO-Link outputs. Capacitive versions detect non-metals, including plastics, glass, wood and bulk material, and are used for level and presence checks where an inductive sensor would see nothing.
Every unit is tested for switching distance, hysteresis and reverse-polarity protection before packing, and the range includes weld-immune models with an anti-spatter coating and hygienic models with a sealed stainless face that resist high-pressure cleaning.
Range Overview
Proximity Switches variants
Each variant exists because a different application needs it. The distinction is usually mechanical or environmental rather than a better accuracy figure.
Inductive Proximity Sensors
1-40 mmMetal detection in M8 to M30 barrels and rectangular housings, with extended sensing distances and short-circuit protection.
Capacitive Proximity Sensors
Non-metalDetection of plastics, glass, wood, liquids and powders, with adjustable sensitivity and a potentiometer or teach-in interface.
Weld-Immune Sensors
Weld dutyPTFE-coated stainless faces and a magnetic field resistant circuit for MIG and spot welding cells.
Hygienic Proximity Sensors
IP69KIP69K stainless housings with a crevice-free design for food, beverage and pharmaceutical washdown areas.
IO-Link Proximity Sensors
IO-Link 1.1Parameterisable sensors that report switching distance, temperature and diagnostics to the controller over IO-Link.

Applications
Where this family is used
Machine tool position and end stops
Inductive sensors on clamp, slide and turret positions, with weld-immune versions on the welding station.
Packaging and filling lines
Capacitive sensors detect labels, caps and liquid levels through plastic walls without contact.
Robot grippers and tool changers
Miniature M8 sensors confirm part presence and gripper state on moving axes, keeping the mass low.
Conveyor and accumulation control
High-frequency sensors count and gap parts on fast conveyors with a repeatable switching point.
Selection Guide
How to specify correctly
-
1
Size the sensor for the target, not the gap
Standard sensing distance is roughly half the barrel diameter. If the mechanical gap is large, choose an extended-range model rather than a bigger sensor.
-
2
Match the face to the environment
PBT faces crack under weld spatter, standard stainless erodes under high-pressure wash. PTFE-faced and IP69K models exist for these two cases.
-
3
Check the derating for the target material
Inductive sensors are rated on mild steel. Aluminium, brass and stainless reduce the sensing distance by 20% to 60%, so specify with the real target.
-
4
Decide if you need diagnostics
An IO-Link sensor costs slightly more and tells you when the sensing distance is degrading, which is useful on hidden or safety-relevant positions.
-
5
Plan the cable route
Keep sensor cable away from drive output cables or specify shielded PUR cable; most intermittent faults on proximity sensors are induced noise, not sensor failure.

Proximity Switches questions
Why does my inductive sensor switch at a shorter distance than the datasheet?
The datasheet figure is measured against a mild steel target of a defined size, usually a square of the same width as the sensing face and 1 mm thick. Aluminium, brass, copper and stainless steel reduce the sensing distance, sometimes by more than half. State the real target material when you order.
Can a proximity sensor work through a metal wall?
No. Inductive sensors cannot see through metal because the same eddy-current effect that detects the target shields the field. Use a capacitive sensor through a non-metallic wall, or mount the sensor inside the enclosure.
What is the difference between IP67 and IP69K?
IP67 survives temporary immersion. IP69K survives high-pressure, high-temperature jet cleaning at close range. Food and beverage washdown areas need IP69K, and the sensor face and cable gland must be rated for it too.
Do you offer ATEX proximity switches?
Yes, Ex ia versions in M12 and M18 with a certified barrier or an isolated amplifier. They are commonly used on valve position feedback in Zone 1 and Zone 2 areas.
How do I reduce nuisance triggering on a welding cell?
Use a weld-immune sensor with a PTFE face and mount it at least one sensing distance away from the weld current path. Route the cable separately from the welding leads, and if spatter is heavy, add a protective bracket.
