Overview
The DM-FV40 measures steam and gas flow using the von Kármán vortex principle: a bluff body in the flow sheds vortices at a frequency proportional to velocity, and a piezoelectric sensor downstream counts them. There are no moving parts in the flow, so the meter does not wear and does not need a strainer or a bypass.
With the optional integrated PT100, the meter calculates compensated mass flow for saturated steam directly, so the control system receives a mass flow value instead of volumetric flow that has to be corrected elsewhere. The display shows flow, total, temperature and pressure on two lines.
Key features
- DN15 to DN300, PN16 to PN40 flange connections
- ±1% of reading for liquids, ±1.5% for gases and steam
- No moving parts, no strainer required
- Integrated temperature compensation for saturated steam (option)
- 4-20 mA with HART 7, pulse and RS485 Modbus
- Up to 400 °C media temperature with the high-temperature head
Typical applications
- Steam header and branch metering
- Compressed air consumption by production area
- Natural gas and process gas flow
- Boiler feedwater and condensate measurement
Sizing note
Vortex meters have a minimum Reynolds number, so an oversized meter will not register low flow. Size for the normal flow at 60-80% of range and confirm that the minimum flow stays above the meter’s lower limit; if it does not, choose a smaller size or a different technology.
